Memorial Day Flood in Wimberly, Texas

In 2015, Wimberly, Texas experience a devastating flood. It all began in Blanco, Texas when torrential downpours overwhelmed the Blanco River. Experts have said that the amount of rain that hit Blanco hadn’t been seen in nearly 500 years. Unfortunately, the Blanco River overflowed and began to move toward Wimberly, Texas.
Wimberly residents were caught by surprise as many were still celebrating the holiday. The water came in like a wall, taking the lives of livestock and four people. When a river floods and overflows its banks, it is a terrifying scene to behold. A house can be swept away with the current leaving nothing but the foundation it was built on. When the water subsides, you’ll find the bottom of a river where your home used to be. Knee-deep silt, mud and debris covers your property. This event devastated the people of Wimberly and the communities around it. Without a thought, people from all over Texas rose to the occasion to help the victims of this natural disaster.
